About God of Longevity (Shou Xing)

• The God of Longevity (Shouxing 壽星) is the star of the south pole in Chinese astronomy, and is believed to control the life spans of mortals.
• He is recognized by his high, domed forehead and carries a peach – a symbol of immortality.
• His staff fends off negative forces which steal one’s life force. It is decorated a Golden Wu Lou filled with the elixir of life.
• Here, he is pictured with a deer, ingots and four children – both male and female – to symbolize fertility and descendants.
